After Instagram and Facebook, YouTube users report video streaming site ‘not working’

YouTube faced a major outage on Tuesday, with users reporting errors while trying to access the platform. According to reports, Downdetector.com recorded over 3824 complaints of YouTube downtime around 9pm. This issue comes shortly after Meta’s Facebook and Instagram also experienced outages in India and other parts of the world.

Meta’s Facebook and Instagram were down for tens of thousands of users, with more than 300,000 reports of outages for Facebook and over 47,000 reports for Instagram. The outage was so significant that even Tesla CEO Elon Musk commented on the situation, taking a dig at other platforms by stating, “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working.”

Many users took to social media to express their frustration with the simultaneous outages of major platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Some even speculated if this was a practice run for potential network issues in the upcoming US Presidential Polls in November 2024.

Meta’s status dashboard also showed issues with the application programming interface for WhatsApp Business, with around 200 reports of outages for WhatsApp. In response to the outages, a Meta spokesperson assured users that they are working on resolving the problem. The outage quickly became a top trending topic on social media platforms as users shared their experiences of being suddenly logged out of Meta-owned platforms.
