Spotify is working on a new TikTok-like remixing feature. Here's how it will work

Popular streaming service Spotify is currently testing new TikTok-like features that will enable users to remix songs by their favorite artists. The Wall Street Journal reported that early discussions about the tool are underway, and licensing agreements still need to be finalized. Additionally, Spotify may restrict access to the tool to users who subscribe to its new ‘Music Pro’ premium plan.

According to a report from TechCrunch, Spotify is indeed working on new features that will allow users to remix their favorite songs directly within the streaming service. The report cited screenshots of the Spotify app’s code, suggesting that the platform could introduce features like a “playlist tuner” and the ability to flex DJ skills with various transition styles to create custom mixes.

The code also indicates that users may be able to set the tempo range and vibe for their mix by filtering songs based on genre, mood, activity, and more. Furthermore, the tool could be used for creating mixes tailored to specific scenarios, such as a sped-up version of a song for house parties or working out, in order to maintain energy flow between tracks.

The need for Spotify’s remixing tool arises from the increasing popularity of altered and sped-up songs on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Artists and music labels have been releasing officially altered versions of their tracks to address this trend and potentially generate revenue from the altered tracks. Spotify’s new feature could bridge this gap, allowing artists to earn royalties while users customize their favorite tracks seamlessly and according to their preferences.
