Samsung Panics Following Disappointing Financial Results, Implements 6-Day Work Week

Samsung Group, the renowned South Korean technology conglomerate, has recently implemented a six-day workweek for its executives in response to economic challenges and disappointing financial results. This move aims to address hurdles posed by rising oil prices, high borrowing costs, and the sharp depreciation of the South Korean won.

Under the new schedule, Samsung Electronics executives now have the option to work either on Saturday or Sunday, in addition to their regular workweek. This decision is in line with other South Korean conglomerates like SK Group, which has also introduced similar measures to boost productivity.

South Korea is known for its demanding work culture, with employees working an average of 1,901 hours in 2022. The country even considered a 69-hour workweek in 2023 but abandoned the idea due to resistance from young workers and labor unions.

As Samsung Group strives to overcome economic challenges, the implementation of a six-day workweek for executives demonstrates the company’s commitment to adapting to uncertain times. With the global smartphone market showing signs of recovery, Samsung remains focused on maintaining its competitive edge.
