Nothing Phone 2a With Skimmed Down Hardware Said to Be in Development; Design Surfaces Online

Nothing, the company led by Carl Pei, is rumored to be developing a new smartphone. The company has been under scrutiny due to security concerns related to its messaging service, Nothing Chats. While Nothing has not officially confirmed the release of a third smartphone, a leak has suggested the potential name and design of the new device.

The company recently launched the Nothing Phone 2 in India, featuring a 4nm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a 4,700mAh battery with 45W PPS wired fast charging support. This phone followed the release of Nothing’s first handset, the Phone 1, which debuted in July 2022.

According to tipster Sanju Choudhary (@saaaanjjjuuu), Nothing is working on a new smartphone, which might be known as the Nothing Phone 2a with the model number AIN142. The tipster also shared a leaked design render of the purported handset, showing a partial view of the back panel with a dual rear camera unit and Nothing’s distinctive Glyph Interface.

The alleged Nothing Phone 2a is expected to feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a center-aligned hole-punch slot for the front camera sensor. Further details about the phone and its launch are currently unknown.

The most recent smartphone from Nothing, the Phone 2, is available in India in Dark Grey and White color options, with prices starting at Rs. 39,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant.

The release of a new phone leaves questions about whether it will serve as a successor to the Phone 1 or if both models will coexist. Listeners can hear more about Nothing’s new handsets and other tech topics on the latest episode of the Gadgets 360 podcast, Orbital, available on various platforms.
