Spotify may launch Music Pro subscription: What is it and will it be worth paying more

In a potential game-changing move, Spotify is reportedly set to introduce a new premium subscription tier called ‘Music Pro,’ catering to audiophiles with lossless audio quality. This development comes amidst fierce competition in the music streaming industry, with rivals like Apple Music already offering similar features.

Rumors of Spotify venturing into lossless audio have been circulating for years, predating Apple Music’s adoption of the technology in 2021. Despite previous speculation about ‘Spotify HiFi,’ the company has yet to release this feature. However, recent reports from The Verge and 9to5Mac suggest that Spotify is preparing to launch its ‘Music Pro’ plan.

The upcoming ‘Music Pro’ tier will include support for lossless audio, with Spotify aiming to provide FLAC audio files of up to 24-bit/44.1kHz quality. This move puts Spotify in direct competition with Apple Music, whose lossless range currently spans from 16-bit/44.1 kHz to 24-bit/192 kHz.

Lossless audio features compression without sacrificing any audio data, offering listeners a detailed and faithful playback experience. Additionally, Spotify plans to offer a remix feature, headphone optimization for specific models, and AI-based filters for playlist curation to enhance the overall listening experience for ‘Music Pro’ subscribers.

Details regarding the launch date and pricing of the ‘Music Pro’ tier are still unknown. As Spotify considers charging a premium for lossless audio, Apple Music has made hi-fi audio accessible to all subscribers at no extra cost. With the competition heating up between these two streaming giants, consumers will have to decide whether they are willing to pay more for lossless audio on Spotify or consider switching to Apple Music.
