Apple makes it easier and cheaper to repair your iPhone- All details

Apple has announced an expansion to its Self Service Repair program by introducing support for used genuine parts. This initiative will allow iPhone users to carry out repairs on their devices using genuine used parts, potentially reducing the cost of repairs. The program, which includes a process called ‘Pairing’ to confirm the authenticity of the installed part, aims to ensure user privacy, security, and safety.

John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, stated, “teams across Apple have been innovating on product design and manufacturing to support repairs with used Apple parts that won’t compromise users’ safety, security, or privacy.” This move is in line with Apple’s commitment to providing more choice and convenience for customers while extending the life of its products and their parts.

Starting this Fall, select iPhones will be eligible for repairs using genuine used parts through Apple’s Self Service Repair program. Additionally, Apple is extending its Activation Lock feature to iPhone parts to prevent stolen iPhones from being dismantled for parts.

The expansion of the Self Service Repair program comes after Apple introduced the program in 2022, allowing users to repair their iPhones using Apple-supplied parts and repair kits. With the inclusion of support for genuine used parts, Apple is addressing the needs of customers who seek cost-effective repair solutions without compromising on quality and safety.
