Minnesota Vikings mock draft: What would it take to trade up for Drake Maye?

The Minnesota Vikings are facing a crucial decision in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft as they are in need of a quarterback following the departure of Kirk Cousins. With the Bears controlling the top of the draft board, the Vikings find themselves in a challenging position with their first pick not until No. 11.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has strategized by acquiring an additional first-round pick, No. 23 overall, from the Houston Texans. This move makes the Vikings one of three teams with multiple first-round picks and the only team, besides the Bears, in need of a quarterback.

However, moving up in the draft to secure a top quarterback prospect won’t be easy, as other teams like Denver and Las Vegas are also in need of a signal caller. This may lead to the Vikings having to overpay to secure a higher draft pick.

In a mock scenario, the Vikings trade their No. 11, No. 23, No. 129 picks, and a 2025 first-round pick to the Patriots for the No. 3 overall pick to select quarterback Drake Maye from North Carolina. Maye is seen as a promising prospect with a high floor and the potential to become the Vikings’ quarterback of the future.

Beyond addressing the quarterback position, the Vikings look to strengthen their roster with selections in subsequent rounds, focusing on adding depth to areas such as the offensive line, cornerback, defensive tackle, tight end, safety, and tackle.

Ultimately, the 2024 NFL Draft presents a significant opportunity for the Minnesota Vikings to secure a new franchise quarterback and build a competitive roster for the future.
