Spurs newcomer Victor Wembanyama set to sit out 2 games due to sprained right ankle
San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama will miss Thursday’s game against Sacramento and Saturday’s game against Golden State due to a right ankle sprain. Head coach Gregg Popovich stated that Wembanyama is targeting a return for Monday’s game against Golden State.
Wembanyama suffered the injury during Tuesday’s game against Houston but still managed to play 31 minutes, recording 10 points, 11 rebounds, and seven blocks. Popovich noted that after reviewing the game film, it was evident that Wembanyama was not moving well, prompting the decision to sit him out for the upcoming games.
The first overall pick in last year’s draft, Wembanyama has been a key contributor for the Spurs this season, averaging 20.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and a league-leading 3.4 blocked shots. San Antonio has struggled without Wembanyama in the lineup, going 0-6 in games he has missed.
Despite the setback, the Spurs are optimistic about Wembanyama’s recovery and hope to have him back on the court soon. The team will closely monitor his progress and provide updates as he works towards a full recovery.
