The win secured Marquette the No. 3 seed in the Big East Tournament, despite playing without injured guard Tyler Kolek for the third consecutive game. Quincy Olivari had an impressive 32 points for Xavier, in what was his final home game.

Xavier is now aiming to avoid their first losing season in 28 years, having previously maintained a streak of 27 consecutive winning seasons. Marquette leads the overall series with Xavier 58-27, including a 15-14 record since joining the Big East conference.

Looking ahead, Xavier will play in the first round of the conference tournament at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. Marquette will begin their tournament play on Thursday. Tyler Kolek, who missed the game due to injury, may return for the Big East Tournament, providing a boost for the Golden Eagles.
