Kyle Larson details Indianapolis 500 prep: 'There's a ton left to learn'

In exactly one month, Kyle Larson will be vying for a spot in the prestigious Indianapolis 500. Many are confident that he will secure one of the 33 spots in the field, especially considering there are expected to be 34 or 35 entries. However, just qualifying for the race is only a stepping stone for Larson as he aims to increase his racing legacy.

Having completed a rookie orientation program at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last fall, tested at Phoenix Raceway in February, and recently achieved the second-fastest speed in the open Indy 500 test, the question arises: Is Larson prepared for his IndyCar Series debut at the iconic event?

Larson himself admitted that despite some learning during the test, he still feels there is much more to absorb before feeling fully ready for the race. His approach involves using the draft from running behind another car to increase speed in his Arrow McLaren car.

A decorated and versatile race-car driver, Larson, the 2021 Cup champion, remains humble and focused as he gears up for the Indy 500. While he acknowledges the challenges ahead, he is determined to be competitive in the renowned motorsport event.

The prospect of completing 1,100 miles on May 26th, as he will jump from the Indy 500 to the NASCAR Cup Series marathon Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, showcases Larson’s endurance and commitment to the sport. With his Hendrick Motorsports team backing his efforts, Larson’s ambition and skill as a driver are set to be tested in the upcoming weeks.
