Doctors Remove 'World's Largest' Chocolate Cyst

In a remarkable medical achievement, doctors at Central Hospital of Railway in Prayagraj have successfully removed the ‘world’s largest’ ovarian endometrioma (chocolate cyst) from a 19-year-old woman. The cyst, measuring a staggering 28.3 cm long, 24.4 cm wide, and 12 cm deep, was extracted by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, a senior general and laparoscopic surgeon, along with his mentor Dr. Sabi Ahmed. This feat has earned them a mention in the International Book of Records.

The patient, Lavisha Ranjan from Mirzapur, was admitted to Central Railway Hospital with complaints of severe abdominal distension, respiratory distress, and anaemia. After a thorough evaluation, the decision was made to operate on her due to the high-risk nature of her condition. The milestone surgery took place on January 31 and was a success.

Dr. Kumar shared that the size of the ovarian endometrioma removed at Central Hospital Prayagraj surpasses the previous record reported in literature. The cyst contained approximately 5 liters of chocolate-brown fluid, indicating the complexity of the case. The procedure was captured on video and uploaded to YouTube for reference.

This groundbreaking surgery, not only highlights the expertise and skill of the medical team at Central Hospital, but also showcases their commitment to tackling challenging cases with precision and care. The successful removal of the ‘world’s largest’ ovarian endometrioma is a testament to the advancements in medical science and the dedication of healthcare professionals in providing quality patient care.
