Royal Philips Breaks Ground for New R&D Centre in Pune

In a move highlighting India’s increasing significance in healthcare innovation, Royal Philips recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Research and Development (R&D) centre in Pune, Maharashtra. The facility, situated in a 10-acre plot in MIDC, Chinchwad, will be the expansion of its Healthcare Innovation Centre (HIC) and will feature an office space of approximately 300,000 sq ft in the first phase, accommodating 1900 employees.

The upcoming R&D centre, set to be operational within two years, will bring together teams from Philips’ Image Guided Therapy, Precision Diagnosis, Monitoring, and Sleep & Respiratory businesses under one roof. This consolidation aims to enhance efficiency, scale, and speed while promoting sharing of resources and best practices across various divisions. The focus of the new centre will be on developing innovative health technologies to support Philips’ global mission of enhancing the lives of 2.5 billion people annually by 2030.

Emphasizing its commitment to sustainability, the new centre will incorporate green power sources, EV charging facilities, and promote bicycle commuting. The launch of this centre not only marks a significant milestone in Philips’ global presence but also underscores the organization’s dedication to using technology to improve access to healthcare.

Bert van Meurs, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Leader at Philips, expressed, “This new centre will further strengthen our commitment to supporting the Indian healthcare ecosystem with innovative and sustainable solutions and leveraging the same for customers globally.” Peeyush Kaushik, Vice President and Head of Healthcare Innovation Centre, Pune, added, “With the launch of this new centre, we will be able to design more innovative end-to-end solutions and collaborate better with healthcare providers to achieve better health outcomes.”
