MBRSG, GCHRAGD collaborate to explore healthcare's role in peace-building initiatives, ET HealthWorld

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) and the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue (GCHRAGD) recently held a panel discussion in Dubai to explore global government practices that can improve healthcare access as a tool for promoting peace-building. The session, titled “Right to Health and Peacebuilding Amidst Geopolitical Tensions,” focused on integrating healthcare into peace processes and conflict resolution. Experts highlighted the role of healthcare professionals and the importance of women in health services for successful peace processes.

The panel included representatives from the International Humanitarian City in Dubai, the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, the Dubai Health Authority, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. They discussed the role of healthcare policymakers in using health as a bridge to peace through conflict analysis, advocacy, and capacity building.

Professor Immanuel Azaad Moonesar emphasized MBRSG’s commitment to fostering global dialogue through the workshop. Dr. Umesh Palwankar, Executive Director of GCHRAGD, stressed the importance of humanitarian law in protecting non-combatants in armed conflicts and upholding the right to health. The panel identified potential intervention avenues for health as a bridge for peace programs, including delivering health services in conflict zones and providing mental health services for reconciliation.

The event concluded with plans to publish a comprehensive report that will include the panel proceedings, analytical insights, and full statements of the panelists. This publication aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on the role of healthcare in peacebuilding. Stay tuned for more updates on this important initiative.
