IIT-M launches country's first medical devices calibration facility, ET HealthWorld

Chennai: IIT Madras has introduced India’s first mobile medical devices calibration facility, as part of its ‘Anaivarukkum IITM’ initiative. The initiative aims to provide quality healthcare services across the country, regardless of geographical locations. The mobile unit is equipped with cutting-edge equipment to test the safety and functionality of medical devices according to international standards.

The calibration facility on wheels will play a crucial role in testing and maintaining medical devices used in hospitals, including those in rural areas. Ensuring the accuracy of medical instruments is vital for precise disease diagnosis and treatment effectiveness. IIT Madras Director, Prof V Kamakoti, inaugurated the facility along with other faculty members and students.

Calibration is essential for maintaining the accuracy of medical instruments and enabling accurate disease diagnosis and treatment. The facility is the first of its kind in India, providing affordable quality calibration services. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on health and wellbeing for all.

The launch of the mobile medical devices calibration facility underscores IIT Madras’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and quality across the nation.
