Doctors Say No Need to Panic as Covid Cases Spike, But Stay Cautious, ET HealthWorld

In response to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in Delhi, doctors have urged the public not to panic as most patients are experiencing mild symptoms that typically resolve within 5 to 7 days. However, they emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant and adhering to safety protocols.

Delhi reported 63 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, marking the highest daily count since May of last year when over 50 cases were recorded in a single day. Along with Covid-19, there has been a notable increase in influenza cases and H1N1 infections, with slightly more severe symptoms than Covid-19.

Leading doctors from private and government hospitals have observed a rise in patients presenting with prolonged cough after H1N1 or H3N2 infections. Dr. Sushila Kataria from Medanta Hospital reported treating several mild Covid-19 cases in the last 15 days, with symptoms including high-grade fever, cough, cold, and loss of smell. Dr. Sandeep Budhiraja from Max Healthcare noted the majority of cases are viral illnesses that tested positive for H1N1.

Dr. Shweta Bansal from Narayana Hospital highlighted that such infections are common during transitional seasons and emphasized the importance of seeking prompt medical attention if experiencing symptoms like coughing, fever, or eye infections. Government hospitals in Delhi, such as Safdarjung Hospital and RML Hospital, have also reported Covid-positive cases with mild symptoms, with some patients requiring hospitalization.

As cases continue to rise in Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, testing remains low, and periodic surges are expected. It is crucial for individuals to stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and seek medical help if symptoms persist or worsen.
