CMC Vellore becomes first hospital in country to have state-of-the-art AI-powered MRI scanner, ET HealthWorld

In a groundbreaking move, the Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore has acquired a state-of-the-art, AI-powered low-field portable MRI scanner. This scanner, known as the Hyperfine Swoop, sets CMC Vellore apart as the first hospital in the country to possess such advanced technology. With a magnetic field strength of only 0.064 T, this scanner is not only safer but also more energy-efficient compared to traditional MRI scanners.

The portable MRI scanner boasts a power consumption of just 900 watts, equivalent to that of a coffee machine. What makes it even more remarkable is that it does not require cryogens, making it easily portable and maneuverable using a joystick control. This feature allows the scanner to be moved from one facility to another, and even to the patient’s bedside for convenience.

According to the official X handle of CMC Vellore, the scanner is currently approved for research use in the country. Equipped with advanced image processing and deep learning algorithms, the scanner is capable of producing high-quality MRI images for research purposes. This development marks a significant advancement in medical imaging technology in India and holds promise for future healthcare applications.

The acquisition of the low-field portable MRI scanner by CMC Vellore is a significant milestone in the field of medical imaging. This cutting-edge technology not only enhances the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities but also sets a new standard for healthcare facilities in the country. The innovative features of this AI-powered scanner make it a valuable addition to CMC Vellore’s medical equipment, paving the way for more efficient and accessible patient care.
