Tesla CEO Elon Musk Postpones India Visit for Unknown Reasons: Report

Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s highly anticipated visit to India has been temporarily postponed. The reason behind the delay remains undisclosed, but sources suggest that Musk’s schedule might have clashed with another commitment. Musk had expressed his excitement about meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India on April 10, 2024, and was scheduled to meet with him in New Delhi on April 22.

The meeting between Musk and PM Modi was crucial as Tesla has been advocating for lower import taxes on electric vehicles in India while exploring the possibility of establishing a manufacturing plant in the country. According to reports, Tesla is in discussions with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries (RIL) to form a joint venture for setting up an EV facility in India.

Furthermore, Elon Musk’s satellite venture Starlink is also making progress in India. The license application for Starlink is being reviewed by the government to ensure compliance with security measures. Financial aspects and ownership declarations for Starlink have been addressed, signaling the company’s commitment to entering the Indian market.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Elon Musk had sent a team to India to scout locations for a proposed $2 billion to $3 billion electric car plant. Musk was expected to announce plans to invest nearly ₹3 billion in India for the establishment of a new manufacturing facility. Despite the postponement of his visit, the interest and potential collaboration between Tesla and Indian partners indicate a promising future for electric vehicles in the country.
