Unique ‘Surya tilak’ to adorn Ram Lalla in Ayodhya on Ram Navami

In a unique and groundbreaking endeavor, scientists have successfully devised a mechanism to project the Sun’s rays onto the forehead of the idol of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, just in time for Ram Navami. This innovative ‘Surya tilak’ will adorn the deity for the first time since the consecration of the Ram idol at the new temple inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January.

The system, which was tested by scientists on Tuesday, aims to focus sunlight on the forehead of the Lord Ram idol every year on Ram Navami in the Chaitra month. This project, led by Dr. S K Panigrahi from CSIR-CBRI Roorkee, involves intricate calculations to ensure the alignment of the Sun’s rays on the deity’s forehead.

With the support of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) in Bangalore, the team from CSIR-CBRI Roorkee has developed an opto-mechanical system comprising mirrors, lenses, and piping to steer the sunlight from the temple’s top floor to the ‘garbha griha’. Despite the potential challenge of a cloudy sky hindering the process, the team remains steadfast in their commitment to maintaining the authenticity of the ritual.

Anil Mishra from Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust mentioned that devotees will be allowed to witness the Surya tilak inside the Ram temple during the celebrations. The meticulous planning and execution of this project underscore India’s scientific prowess and indigenous technological development, showcasing a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation.
