Airtel outpaces Jio on fixed broadband speed: Opensignal

The need for high-speed and quality home broadband has never been greater in the era of remote working. But how does your home broadband compare to other ISPs in your area? Can you replace it with a 5G connection? These are the kind of questions consumers often ask.

According to the latest analysis of fixed broadband services in India by internet analytics company Opensignal, Airtel’s Xstream broadband service surpasses Reliance JioFiber in terms of download speeds at the national level. The report shows Airtel’s average download speed as 44.1Mbps, with JioFiber lagging behind at 33.8Mbps. Airtel also outpaces JioFiber in the Broadband Peak Download Speed metric, with recorded speeds of 213.6Mbps and 155.3Mbps respectively.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) latest data shows that India has a wired broadband subscriber base of 37.35 million, with Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and BSNL leading in market share.

Airtel’s Xstream broadband plans offer speeds starting at 40Mbps, while JioFiber’s plans start at 30Mbps. Both providers also offer high-speed plans of up to 1Gbps.

Airtel’s advantage over JioFiber is also seen in the Broadband Upload Speed metric, with Airtel ahead by 6.5Mbps at 33.3Mbps compared to Jio’s 26.8Mbps. JioFiber, however, performs well in the Broadband Consistent Quality metric, surpassing Airtel in national-level results with a score of 71.6% compared to Airtel’s 68.4%.

In addition to national providers like Airtel, BSNL, and Jio, regional ISPs are also proving to be strong contenders in different regions of India. For example, GTPl, Hathway, and ACT have favorable results in cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

In conclusion, the analysis by Opensignal reaffirms the importance of both national and regional ISPs, and the ongoing competition to provide high-speed, quality broadband services across India.
