Adani Group to invest ₹60,000 crore in airport sector

The Adani Group has announced its plan to invest a whopping ₹60,000 crore over the next ten years to transform its airports into bustling aviation hubs and commercial centers for city residents. The group currently operates seven airports in India, with one more under construction in Navi Mumbai. These airports have an annual passenger handling capacity of 100-110 million, a number the group aims to increase by 2.5-3 times by 2040.

In the next five years, Adani Group will invest ₹30,000 crore in improving airport terminal and airside facilities at its airports. This investment is in addition to the ₹18,000 crore already put into constructing the first phase of the Navi Mumbai airport. During the inauguration of a new integrated terminal in Lucknow, Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, mentioned plans to build a new terminal in Guwahati and Ahmedabad, with the Navi Mumbai airport set to have a capacity of 20 million passengers per year by early next year.

Karan Adani, managing director of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited, shared that the group’s airports in Ahmedabad and Lucknow will evolve into aviation hubs with direct connectivity to Europe and the US. Rather than relying on connecting flights through West Asia, Delhi, or Mumbai, residents will have direct access to international destinations. The group also plans to invest ₹30,000 crore in city-side developments at eight airports over the next decade, including the construction of hotels, multiplexes, and other facilities. Internal funding will support these investments, with a potential IPO for the business at a later date.
