Tesla's Elon Musk postpones India trip, sources say

Tesla chief Elon Musk has postponed his planned trip to India where he was set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announce intentions to enter the South Asian market. The reason for the sudden change in plans has not been disclosed yet.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Musk was expected to arrive in New Delhi to unveil an investment of $2 billion to $3 billion, primarily for the construction of a Tesla factory in India. This decision came after the Indian government introduced a policy aimed at reducing high tariffs on imported cars in exchange for local investments.

The CEO’s visit was scheduled to coincide with the country’s national election, where Modi is projected to secure a rare third term. Despite Musk expressing excitement for the meeting with Modi on social media, the exact motivation behind the postponement remains unclear.

Tesla and Modi’s office have yet to provide official statements regarding the rescheduling of Musk’s trip. The news of the delay comes after Reuters initially reported on Musk’s planned visit to India on April 10th.

As the Indian market becomes increasingly appealing to global automotive manufacturers, the anticipation surrounding Tesla’s potential entry into the region continues to grow. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
